The Vatican and its Basilica of St. Peter represent Christianity and the Catholic Church in the world. Every year, thousands of pilgrims from all over the world flock to this unique holy place. A simple fence today represents the border between these two states which, over the centuries, have been at war many times. Anyone can go from one side to the other as they please.
